Approve a sensor

After you complete the sensor installation process, approve the sensor to start monitoring a database.

Make sure that you have installed the Database Security sensor on the database host server and the sensor service is running.

  1. Log on to the Database Security web console using the administrator user name and password created during the Database Security server installation process.

  2. Click the Sensors page.

  3. In the sensor list, click the Approve icon next to the appropriate sensor to approve it.

When Approve Sensor page is displayed (pre-existing sensor record exists in the system), then from the Available actions drop-down list, select how you want to handle this sensor:

    • New — Indicates this is a new sensor.

    • Merge — Indicates this is the same sensor as previously installed, for example, following reinstallation, and both instances must be treated as a single sensor.

    • Delete — Indicates this sensor was added in error and must be removed from the configuration.

  4. Select the DBMS you want to monitor and click Close.

    Note

If no databases have been defined for this sensor, the name of the logged-on user appears in the Approved By column. If a new sensor reports that it is monitoring a database which is already recognized by the Database Security system, you are prompted to select the databases you want to monitor.

The selected DBMS is now protected by Database Security vPatch rules and it is displayed in the Sensors page. The name of the user who approved the sensor appears in the Approved By field under sensor list.

  5. Click OK.
