On a VMware virtual appliance, the capture port is connected to a standard virtual switch or a portgroup on a distributed switch with promiscuous mode enabled.

Log on to the VMware vSphere host using the VSphere Client.
Select the VMware vSphere host in the inventory list.
Click the Configuration tab.
In the Hardware section, click Networking.
Select the Properties of the virtual switch that you want to enable promiscuous mode on.
Select the virtual switch or portgroup you want to modify and click Edit.
Click the Security tab.
From the Promiscuous Mode menu, click Accept.
