All scans require definitions to specify the repository, credentials, and schedule. Scan definitions can be created on the DLP Discover page or in the DLP Policy Manager.
You must have the user name, password, and path for the repository.

In ePO - On-prem select one of the following:
Menu → Data Protection → DLP Discover
Menu → Data Protection → DLP Policy Manager
Click the Definitions tab.
Create a credentials definition.
Note
For remediation scans, the credentials must have read and write permissions. For remediation scans that apply RM policy or move files, full control permissions are needed.
In the left pane, select Other → Credentials.
Select Actions → New Item and replace the default name with a unique name for the definition.
Fill in the credentials parameters. Click Save.
Create a repository definition.
In the left pane, under Repositories, select the type of new repository you want to create.
Select Actions → New Item, type a unique repository name in the Name field, and fill in the rest of the Type and Definitions information.

Exclude parameters are optional. At least one Include definition is needed.
Create a scheduler definition.
In the left pane, select Other → Scheduler.
Select Actions → New Item and fill in the scheduler parameters. Click Save.

Parameter options depend on which Schedule type you select.
Create a file information definition.
Note
File information definitions are used to define scan filters. Filters allow you to scan repositories in a more granular manner by defining which files are included and which are excluded. File information definitions are optional, but recommended.
In the left pane, select Data → File Information.
Select Actions → New Item and replace the default name with a unique name for the definition.
Select properties to use as filters and fill in the Comparison and Value details. Click Save.
