You can select hardware appliances over virtual appliances for dedicated network security. Hardware appliances provide dedicated performance for high-volume tasks. Purpose-built processors execute specific algorithms instantly. This physical isolation ensures uncompromised security across networks.

Performance advantages - Dedicated chips process heavy data loads without overloading server CPUs. Software deployments often experience delays due to operating system overhead. Using physical hardware preserves your main servers for business applications.

Security and reliability benefits - Physical devices operate independently from host servers as a result it makes appliances invulnerable to operating system malware. Dedicated operating systems also reduce crash risks from software updates. A single appliance secures an entire network. Software requires installation on every device.

Compliance readiness - Physical isolation simplifies data handling audits. Appliances satisfy strict regulatory compliance easier than virtual environments.

Capabilities of Trellix DLP 8800

The Trellix DLP 8800 hardware appliance provides comprehensive data protection capabilities across protocols on the enterprise network.

  • Protect corporate email traffic - Integrate Trellix DLP 8800 with Mail Transfer Agent (MTA) gateways or a Smart Host to analyze inbound or outbound email messages. Trellix DLP 8800 decomposes email component parts, extracts text for fingerprinting, and acts on configured rules, such as blocking violations or adding custom headers.

  • Secure web uploads and traffic: Integrate Trellix DLP 8800 with Internet Content Adaptation Protocol (ICAP)-compliant web proxies, such as Skyhigh Security Secure Web Gateway, to analyze web requests. Trellix DLP 8800 inspects web traffic to allow or deny transfers based on content and returns a block page to the user if a policy violation occurs.

  • Enforce complex security policies: Apply built-in or customized rules using advanced text patterns, dictionaries, keywords, true file types, and file extensions to block or monitor sensitive data-in-motion automatically.

  • Apply rules to specific users and groups: Integrate Trellix DLP 8800 with registered Active Directory (AD) or Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) servers to configure synchronization schedules and evaluate rules based on specific sender groups or user accounts.

  • Scan image content with OCR: Trellix DLP 8800 uses Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to extract and scan text inside images attached to emails or uploaded in web posts, including images saved inside PDF files.

Trellix Data Loss Prevention (DLP) Network Monitor intercepts live network traffic in real time to capture and analyze data anomalies. Both network appliances capture evidentiary artifacts to support forensic investigation workflows. Administrators centrally manage these network appliances using policies distributed through Trellix ePO. Advanced detection options include exact data matching (EDM) and OCR to extract text from image files.
