Create and apply policy hierarchies

Prev Next

Group rules under a hierarchy of policies.

By assigning rules to policies in a hierarchy, you can simplify policy management. Using policy inheritance, where a child policy inherits settings from its parent, you can apply a broad policy to a large group of rules and more specific policies to subgroups. For example, you might assign all rules of a certain device type to a group and then assign some of them to a subgroup that inherits the parent policy settings and the rest to a subgroup that has inheritance turned off.

You can nest child policies in other child policies, enable and disable rules, and turn inheritance on or off. Use caution - these tactics might complicate your policy management schema.

  1. From Policy Editor, select the device and rule type you want to manage.

  2. Click the Policy Tree icon. GUID-36744878-A65B-4FE5-89D9-5AF0FD38B171-low.png
