Install Trellix Endpoint Security (ENS) 26.x on a self-managed endpoint using a command line

Prev Next

To install Trellix Endpoint Security (ENS) 26.x on a self-managed endpoint with custom options like silent installation, run the installer from the command line.

Information is reported in the installation log file. You can specify an option to display a progress window, if needed.

Best practice: For optimal performance and protection, install the same version of the Trellix ENS modules or upgrade all modules to the latest version. All Trellix ENS modules installed or upgraded on a system should originate from the same source package, avoiding a mix and match of installed module versions.

When there is a reboot pending related to operating system updates, previous installs, or third-party application changes on the endpoints with Trellix Agent 5.7.4 or later, install or upgrade of Trellix Endpoint Security (ENS) on those endpoints will not occur until the operating system is rebooted.

Note

When installing Trellix ENS on Windows Server 2016, version 1803 or newer, or Windows Server 2019, or newer, the Windows Defender installed on your endpoints can be disabled manually. If the endpoints are onboarded to Microsoft Defender for Endpoint on Windows Server, version 1803 or newer, or Windows Server 2019, or newer, then Windows Defender can be set to passive mode manually. For more information about Windows Defender status after installing ENS, refer to the following Community Article

  1. Copy the product files to the endpoint where you plan to install it.

Depending on how you purchased the product, you might need to download product files from a download site or copy them from a disc.

  2. Open a Command Prompt window, navigate to the folder where you copied the files, then type this command and any applicable parameters, which are not case-sensitive:

    setupEP.exe [parameters]

As a best practice, we recommend restarting the endpoint after the installation has completed.

To verify that Trellix ENS installed on the endpoint, open the Windows Control Panel and check that version 26.x of each product module you selected to install appears. You can also check that no errors or failure messages appear in the installation log file.
