Before a syslog server can be logged, it must first be enabled at the system level:
Log in to the DSM as an administrator. Choose either System Administrator or All for the administrator type. Do not switch into any domain.
Select System > General Preferences from the top menu.
Click the System tab and then in the Syslog Settings section, check the Syslog Enabled box.
