Initial configuration prerequisites

Prev Next

Before you configure the appliance:

  • Read the Release Notes for the current release.

  • Collect the following information from your network administrator:

    • Static IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway address for the appliance management interface. (You do not need this information if Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) will be used on the management interface.)

    • IP address for each Domain Name System (DNS) server (if DNS name resolution will be used).

    • IP address for each Network Time Protocol (NTP) server (if NTP synchronization will be used).

    • Telnet or SSH client on the remote system (if the appliance will be managed remotely).

  • If you plan to configure initial settings using the serial console port and a Windows or Mac laptop, obtain a USB-to-serial cable.

Important

When planning your network configuration, do not use the following IP address ranges. These are reserved for internal system use, and assigning them to appliance interfaces will cause network conflicts:

  • 192.168.100.x: Reserved internal IP address range for the Ether 2 interface. This cannot be changed.

  • 192.168.200.x: Reserved IP address range for Docker containers.
