Performing the initial NDR Console configuration

The initial configuration of the virtual NDR Console instance is nearly the same as the configuration of the physical appliance. Follow the procedures in the "Initial Configuration" chapter of the NDR Console Product Guide with the changes described below.

Configure NDR Console for IPv4 address

This procedure details the steps for configuring the network parameters of the Trellix NDR Console appliance, including setting up the IPv4 address for management access and optionally configuring the Ether1 interface.

  1. Change the default password for npadmin and npscp users.

  2. Type y to configure the system.

  3. Choose the IP address type:

    1. To configure a static address, type S and press Enter.

    2. To configure a DHCP address, type D and press Enter. Perform the steps from Step 11 onwards for DHCP.

  4. Type the routable IP4 address for the appliance and press Enter.

  5. Type the netmask address for the appliance and press Enter.

  6. Press Enter when prompted for Routable IPv6 Address.

  7. Press Enter when promted for Prefix Length.

  8. Type the IPv4 address gateway and press Enter.

  9. Press Enter when prompted for IPv6 address gateway.

  10. Type the DNS address and press Enter.

  11. Type the search domain(s) only if you want to specify non-fully qualified NTP servers in the step 12. Otherwise, press Enter.

  12. Type a local NTP server name only if one is available, or press Enter to accept the default option.

  13. To enable the Ether1 interface, enter Y and specify the following parameters:

    • IP address type - Static/Dhcp (S/D)

    • Routable IP Address

    • Netmask

    • Press Enter when asked to enter for routable IPv6 address and prefix length.

    Note

    The Ether1 interface is used for internal communication between multi-box NDR Console clusters and single-box clusters in multi-director configurations.

  14. When the current settings are displayed, enter Y to save your configuration.

  15. When the message "Do you want to rebuild storage? [y/n]" is displayed, enter y or n.

    Note

    Before rebuilding the storage, note the following:

    • Select Yes(y) to rebuild storage if this is a new installation.

    • Do not rebuild the storage if you are using a storage volume that was used by another instance.

    • Capture data on storage disk drives will be erased if you enter y.

  16. Press Enter. The NDR Console will restart.

Configure NDR Console for IPv6 address

This procedure details the steps for configuring the network parameters of the NDR Console appliance, focusing on setting up the IPv6 address for management access and optionally configuring the Ether1 interface.

  1. Change the default password for the npadmin and npscp users.

  2. Type y to configure the system.

  3. Choose the IP address type:

    1. To configure a static address, type S and press Enter.

    2. To configure a DHCP address, type D and press Enter. Perform the steps from Step 11 onwards for DHCP.

  4. Press Enter when prompted for routable IP address.

  5. Press Enter when prompted for the netmask address.

  6. Type the routable IPv6 address for the appliance and press Enter.

  7. Type the routable prefix lenght for the appliance and press Enter.

  8. Press Enter when prompted for the IPv4 address gateway.

  9. Type the IPv6 address gateway and press Enter.

  10. Type the DNS address and press Enter.

  11. Type the search domain(s) only if you want to specify non-fully qualified NTP servers in the step 12. Otherwise, press Enter.

    Note

    If you do not want to provide an NTP server name in the above step, press Enter when prompted for Search Domain(s).

  12. Enter a local NTP server name only if one is available. Otherwise, press Enter to accept the default option.

  13. To enable the Ether1 interface, enter Y and then specify the following parameters:

    • IP address type - Static/Dhcp (S/D)

    • Press Enter when prompted for routable IP Address and Netmask.

    • Type the routable IPv6 address and press Enter.

    • Type the prefix length and press Enter.

  14. Your current settings are displayed. Enter Y to save your configuration.

  15. You see the following prompt: "Do you want to rebuild storage? [y/n]:", enter y or n.
