Use case — Visual labeling in Microsoft Office applications and Outlook

Prev Next

Identifying protected content can be achieved by allowing the end user to apply the classification manually to the file.

Goal

  • Label the document so that the end user is aware of its classification

  • Label the documents without the use of third-party tools.

  • Manage multiple solutions with reduced administrative and operating cost.

Solution

Trellix DLP Endpoint supports labeling on headers, footers, and watermarks, depending on the document type.

Prerequisites

  1. Create a classification.

  2. Check Manual classification in Additional Actions (Group by classifications), Selecting this option will allow users designated under End User Groups to manually apply or remove metadata classification and visual labeling to files and emails, as well view existing classifications.

  3. Configure manual classification In ViewGeneral settings.

Example

Let us visually label a Microsoft word document:

  1. Open a word document, go to HomeManual Classification.

  2. In the Manual Classification dialog box, select Add to Header/Footer/ Watermark and choose a classification.

Depending on the option selected in the General Settings, the selected classification will appear on the Header/Footer/Watermark.

The same options are available in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. However, adding classification details as a watermark is only supported in MS Word. MS PowerPoint does not allow classification details to be added to the header and as a watermark. .
