Add a second hard disk in VMware vSphere

Prev Next

Steps to add a metadata disk before powering on the VM:

  1. Log in to vSphere Web Client.

  2. In the left navigation pane, select the virtual machine.

  3. Click Action > Edit settings.

  4. On the Edit settings screen, click Add hard disk > New standard hard disk.

  5. Specify the appropriate disk space for the second hard disk (Hard disk 2).

    Important

Allocate enough disk space on the second hard disk to accommodate your traffic speed and retention period. See the "Storage Requirements" section in this topic.

  6. Click Save.

  7. Power on the VM.

Note

  • You must add the disk before the first boot. Otherwise, configuration may fail or licenses may be invalidated.

  • Do not replace the root disk with a larger one—always add a new disk for metadata.
