Administrators and Operators can create, save, edit, and delete host sets for a variety of operations, such as configuring containment settings and agent upgrades. Other users can assemble groups of hosts for research and can download *.csv files for reporting, although these users cannot create, save, edit, or delete these groups as host sets.
Possible uses of host sets include:
Agent upgrade sets—Use host sets to upgrade a specified group of hosts while other hosts support system load or other organizational priorities. Agent upgrade sets can consist of agents on hosts that are located in the same geographic region or specific functional department, that are running the same agent version, or that are sensitive or critical machines.
Applying policies—You can apply policies to a specified group of hosts and prioritize the order in which the policies are applied. For more information, see Assigning a policy to a host set.
Exclusion sets—Use host sets to expressly exclude agents from operations. For example, you can use exclusion sets to protect domain controllers, other special-use servers, executive laptops, and other sensitive hosts from disruption during containment and agent upgrade operations.
Reporting sets—Combine and download a report on a host set to view and share information about the hosts in the set. For example, you might want to group host endpoints that reported their status during a specific time interval.
