Example: Installing a virtual NDR Console appliance on KVM using virt-manager

This section shows how to install a NDR Console KVM using virt-manager. It is provided for illustration only and is not an endorsement for the virt-manager tool.

This procedure covers the basic steps for installing a virtual NDR Console appliance on KVM using virt-manager for illustration. The navigation instructions and user interface may vary based on your version of virt-manager.

Download the NDR Console KVM deployment .iso file from the Trellix DTI network to a KVM server.
In Virtual Machine Manager, right-click the connection you want to use and select New.

Complete the New VM screens:

Screen	Action
Step 1	1. Select Local install media (ISO image or CDROM). 2. Click Forward to continue.
Step 2	1. Select Use ISO image. 2. Browse to and select the `.iso` file you downloaded in the first step. 3. Make sure the Automatically detect operating system based on install media checkbox is selected. 4. Click Forward to continue.
Step 3	1. Change the Memory (RAM) value to 64 GB. 2. Change the CPUs value to 16 (minimum). 3. Click Forward to continue.
Step 4	1. Select Select or create custom storage. 2. Click Manage. 3. In the Choose storage volume screen that opens, click Storage in the left pane. 4. Select the disk1.qcow2 volume. Then click Choose volume. 5. Click Forward to continue.
Step 5	1. Change the Name value to a unique name for the virtual machine. 2. Select the Customize configuration before install checkbox. 3. Select Host device eno1: macvtap in the Network selection drop-down list. This is the management port for the virtual appliance. 4. Click Finish.

On the KVM installation page, configure the first storage volume.
1. Click the IDE Disk 1 tab.
2. Expand the Advanced options section.
3. Select SCSI from the Disk bus drop-down list.
4. Click Apply.
On the KVM installation page, add a second storage volume.
1. Click Add hardware. The Add new virtual hardware dialog box opens.
2. Click the Storage tab.
3. Select Select or create custom storage. Then click Manage. The Choose storage volume screen opens.
4. Click the Storage tab. Then select the disk2.qcow2 volume and click Choose volume.
5. Expand the Advanced options section and make sure the Cache mode value is Hypervisor default.
6. Click Finish.
On the KVM installation page, associate the existing virtual NIC with the management port.
1. Select the NIC tab for the NIC in the left pane.
2. Select Host device eno1: macvtap from the Network source drop-down menu.
3. Click Finish.
On the KVM installation page, configure a virtual NIC and associate it with the cluster port.
1. Click Add hardware.
2. Select the Network tab.
3. Select Host device eno2: macvtap.
4. Click Finish.
5. Select the NIC tab for the new NIC in the left pane.
6. Select Host device eno2: macvtap from the Network source drop-down menu.
7. Click Finish.
Click Begin installation.
Check the console for the virtual NDR Console appliance boot status.
Proceed to Performing the initial NDR Console configuration.
